Ethan had surgery on his right thumb. He had Trigger Thumb. The doctor had to cut a pulley in order to release the tension so that he could straighten his thumb out. He was born with it and there was a possibility that the procedure wouldn't work, but thankfully it did. He had to learn how to use his thumb all over again.
